Originally, cranberries only came from North America. Around 1839, following a shipwreck, a number of barrels filled with hard, red berries washed up on the beach of Terschelling in The Netherlands. Beachcombers were disappointed when they found the barrels did not contain the wine they expected and they emptied the barrels in the dunes. Who are we?

We’re a jolly bunch of people who work together in a chocolate factory situated on the outskirts of the beautiful and historic city of Ghent. We set up business making healthy chocolates a few years ago in a kitchen. The aim was to spread a little happiness. And that aim still holds good today.

We choose the finest ingredients from all corners of the world, with respect for the environment and for the farmers of the Southern Hemisphere. A great deal of passion, love, care and devotion is put into making our chocolates, as well as in packaging them. Giving you more information about our products always puts a smile on our faces.

We feel a responsibility to respect the farmers who produce the raw materials and ingredients that go into our products. We owe thanks to the cocoa farmer for the delicious cocoa; and indeed to the cow for the fine milk!
We also look to treat each other here with the same respect, besides giving each other the time and space for self-development, to be happy and to feel at home at work. So a word of thanks to our fine staff for the committed work they put in, day after day, to give you the pleasure of our yummy chocolate!

With top-drawer quality

All our ingredients are carefully selected. The chocolate itself is made and packed using state-of-the-art techniques.
Klingele chocolate is BRC-certified, a guarantee of the top quality that results from the unrelenting commitment of everyone here. Each section of the business is screened, from the moment the ingredients and packaging are received to the dispatch of the finished products.

In harmony with and respecting mankind and nature

We have a wide gamma of organic and FairTrade products, whereby the farmer receives a better price for the ingredients we take from him.
No synthetic or chemical ingredients are to be found in our factory. Our red colouring, for example, is derived from beetroot and our green from spinach. And we make our own contribution to the environment by generating 35% of our energy requirement from solar panels. Where possible, moreover, we recycle packaging or use less of it.

Healthy products

In Belgium, we’re the leading specialist in ‘healthy chocolate’ products. Our main business is chocolate without added sugar. Instead of sugar we use maltitol and/or Stevia extract. We also have chocolate without lactose (rice-based) - as well as organic and FairTrade chocolate (sweetened with cane sugar).
You’ll find only ordinary, natural ingredients in our products – no alien substances.
